Cagliari’s last away fixture of this month sees the Sardinian outfit travel to Stadio Giuseppe Meazze to take on defending champions Inter Milan on Saturday.
Cagliari started off the month with 2-1 win at home against Bari and then triumphed 1-0 away at Sampdoria. They were however unable to make it three in a row as they lost 3-1 against Juventus but bounced back in style with a resounding 4-1 win over Chievo Verona last weekend.
Daniele Conti put Cagliari ahead against Chievo. The medio nodded in a cross from defender Francesco Pisano in the 19th minute. The second goal did not take too long to arrive as Michele Canini fired home in the 29th minute after a scramble in the box. Cagliari then went three goals to the good when Nene scored from close range just before half time.
Nene capped an excellent day for the home fans when he volleyed in Cagliari’s fourth in the 71st minute. Cyril Thereau netted for Chievo in the 84th minute but it was to be nothing but mere consolation as the result of the game was beyond doubt at that point of time.
Inter Milan won the reverse fixture 1-0 in Sardinia in October thanks to a solitary goal from in-form Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o. The last three meetings between Cagliari and Inter have all gone the way of the Nerazzurri. Cagliari have however struggled to find the back of the net on the road in Serie A- they have only netted nine times in thirteen away league outings.
